Wednesday, April 22

Entry for Wednesday, April 22

Charlie Brown looks happy and perhaps Snoopy and his little birdie friend do as well.
Why?  Because it's Wednesday...the middle of the week, of course.  After today we have two more days until we meet up with our cherished weekend!

Today In History

Earth Day always takes place on April 22nd every year

This year is a very special year.  It happens to be the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

Yes, we love our planet.

What can you do on Earth Day?

Well, you can plant a tree sapling that will grow into a large tree one day!

Or, you can help clean up the environment around your home as long as you keep your physical distance from others.

Yes, we are shepherds of the earth.

We love our planet which is our home.
As a good shepherd we must take care of our planet.
It's the only home we have!

Math Learning

This helpful anchor chart showcases how multiplication and division are related.
The left hand column deals with multiplication while the right hand column showcases the division aspect for the 3, 5 and 15 fact family.

Just like addition and subtraction are related.

Remember when we worked on addition/subtraction fact families in class?  Indeed this fact family poster above shows the +/- fact family for 5, 7 and 12.

I'm excited to let you know that there are multiplication and division fact families as well.  This anchor chart showcases the times/divide fact family for 3, 7 and 21 on the left.
We also have a +/- fact family for 2, 4 and 6.

Learning Task

Select four of the six fact family homes above and complete the four families.  That's all the math you have to complete for today.  Hurray!

Language Learning

We must not forget that it is Earth Day today.

We have this lovely read-aloud of the storybook called "Earth Day - Hooray!"
It is a story about a class in the United States who wish to do something special on this day.
Click on the link below to follow the story.

Learning Task

With the help from an adult at home, write a descriptive paragraph about Earth Day
In your paragraph you can tell what you could do to help the earth.
Use plenty of adjectives as they are great describing words.
Make your paragraph five sentences long.
Follow our chart above to assist you.

 Optional Extending Task

Watch the short video below on how to draw and paint a thumb print peacock.
The colours of the peacock resemble the colours of our planet earth!
If you don't have paints, you can use markers to draw the parts your thumb would have made.

Looking good!

Yes, peacocks are beautiful creatures made by God.

Thank You, God, for this lovely creation!

Student Sharing

We catch up with some more fine quality student learning examples.

Excellent responses all around!

Nice verb work as well.  You've got to love those "action" words!

Very descriptive, I say!

Lovely French work too!  Thank you so much for sharing, R. H-F.

We leave you with another prayer for children of the earth.

Enjoy an Earth Day filled with wonder for all of God's creation!
