Week Thirteen of School

Monday found us in the gym.

Time for warm-ups...

...including stretches...

...of many varieties.

Mr. Hamer stretches too...

...but you won't see him in the pictures...

...as his stretches...

...may look a little different...

...from those of the pupils!  Hehehe!

Then it was running time...not racing, but running.

We feel fit!

Time for some ball skills.

Dribbling practice.

Friends.

She's moving and dribbling.

He's about to take a shot on the basketball net in the background.

Some choose the higher baskets.

Some choose the lower.

In our gym class...

...we are all winners.

Great form.

He's happy.

Lining up for their turns.

Back in class...

...we begin our work...

...on our most recent class book.

Smiles for the camera.

We work where we want.

With a slate and a soft book beneath our work, we produce high quality efforts.

Friends.

More smiles.

Block four finds some of the girls...

...rehearsing a dance routine.

More construction...

...with a new batch...

...of Stickle Bricks.

A camera!

Colourful.

A nice kitty cat...

Drawn by a "cool cat!"

The Wedge-Its come out.

Some creative planning...

...results in some great designs.

A cool hat.

Indeed.

Time to work on another class book...

...with lots of brainstorming of ideas...

...of things that occurred in October.

Later we practise...

...showing a math equation...

...in many different ways!  Say, we could have also shown a number line!

Time for some more math.

They are hard at work.

Concentrated efforts.

Looking good.

Before we head for home, we take a few of our class books to read.

We love to read the work from our peers.

On Tuesday evening...

...our school choir...

...dressed up in lumberjack shirts...

...for their performance...

...with Mr. Hamer...and the other choir leaders...

...at Centrepointe Theatre...

...all dressed up and ready to go...with the Rag'n'Bone Theatre Company.

John and Cathy address the choir...

...before the performance.

That's Russell in the back with his guitar.  Mr. Hamer also played guitar in the show.

Don't we look great?

For sure, we do!

We take a break before the audience is let into the auditorium.

The children enjoyed the backstage experience along with Mme Nehme.

Cool lighting...

...and cool mirrors.

We assembled in three rows.

There was a gap between row one and row two...

...which acted as a lane way for John to incorporate the choir into the stage performance.

On Wednesday morning, the children read Lilly's message.  We checked out some consonant digraphs...where two consonants side by side combine to create an entirely new sound.  We also learned that the same digraph can make different sounds...like "th" in "the" as opposed to "th" in "theatre."

Inclement recess brought out the STEAM toys.

This young lady enjoyed printing her name on the blackboard.

He made some nice letter "e's".

They are holding books with characters that share their same name...although one is spelled differently.

Printing practice...

...allows for some nice work...

...on the part of the students.

Nice concerted effort.

Say!

We have completed our latest class book.

It is based on our recent reading...

...of the story...

...entitled...

...Hattie and Hudson.

In the story...

...the little girl named Hattie...

...was paddling her canoe...

...out in the middle of a lake.

She was singing softly...

...to herself...

...when a giant emerged from the depths...

...drawn by the lovely music.

Initially Hattie was frightened...

...but she quickly realized...

...that this giant from the deep...

...was a friendly soul.

In fact...

...the two became fast friends.

When the townspeople spotted the giant...

...they called him a monster.

They convened a meeting...

...to determine a method to catch and dispose of the monster.

Hattie and Hudson came up with a plan to save the giant.

In the end...

...the people from the town...

...realized that Hudson indeed was a friendly giant.

Through the reading of the story, the boys and girls learned that just as you can't judge a book by its cover, you can't judge someone simply by what they look like.  It is what's inside that counts...how that someone acts and how they treat others.

Another fun story we read today in school.

We are good at printing our letters!
Have a great evening everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Some new banners have appeared in the classroom.

They focus on the theme of Advent, winter and Christmas.

They are big.

They are bright and vibrant.

Next week we will visit the Book Fair.

...where the students can make a wish list.

Students love to share their amazing talents with their peers in class.
This is a lovely work of art in the process of completion. Bravo!

More fun with the stickle bricks.

Two proud builders.

In the morning we stand to sing and sign the national anthem.

This is something we take very seriously.

The children...

...enjoy working...

...in their new...

...math workbooks.

They take pride in their work.

We are good at telling time to the hour.

He's happy that there is a book with his name in the title.

As is he!

Him too!

We watched a short Dr. Seuss story that offered a great lesson on fitting in.

They stare intently at the screen.

Another happy lad with his name in the title of the story!

Magnetic building blocks are cool!

A creative design...

...is coming to life!

A horizontal work of art...

...looking great too!

Taking great care...

...to ensure all pieces fit.

Concentration.

Looking good.

Hmmm...

...what will the top look like?

Ah...

...that's it!

A little hut...

In a triangular shape.

Looking nice!

More planning...

...with tons of pieces.

It's coming together.

As is this design.

A happy child.

Make that two happy children...with another few off in the distance!

So creative!

It's going up...

...and up...

...with an interesting design.

Whoa!

Careful hands make a great structure!

Other activities were going on...

...all around the room.

Yet another play toy.

A lovely looking garden.

Our Creation Board.

One box of stickle bricks...

...and another.

The containers are great little organizers for the classroom.

The chrome books...

...provide education and entertainment.

Time to go home at the end of the day.

The little character from some of the books we read.

Yes, we are nearing the end of November.
We'll see you in December!  Hee Hee!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!  Mr. Hamer OCT
