Week Eleven of School

Today was a very special day at St. Bernard Catholic School.

We held our Remembrance Day service as an entire school.

The gymnasium was prepared...

...in a lovely manner.

With artwork from our children.

The presentation was beautiful.

Some of the books on display...

...which were read in our respective classes.

We heard the song "Highway of Heroes."

This book was the theme of a previous year's presentation.

Lovely.

So honourable.

All grades gathered.

The choir sang.

Mrs. Meidema invited her husband to attend the service.

Some of our junior students...

 ...led a choral chant...

...about being Canadian.

We are proud of our country.

Many of the wreaths which were laid at the front of the gym...

...and then moved to the main lobby...

...to be put on display...

...so our visitors...

...can see...

...that the students and staff at St. Bernard...

...will never forget...

...the contributions...

...and sacrifices...

...of the brave men and women...

...who served...

...for our country.

We enjoy the lovely artwork...

...created by some of our junior students...

...now adorning the hallway.

We wear our poppies...

...as a symbol...

...of our remembrance...

 ...and we shall never forget...

...never!

We thank our junior students...

...who prepared the service for us.

Thankful we are.

Great literature.

Our lobby.

The wonderful...

...works of art...

...from our class.

These past few school days...

...we have read these wonderful books...

...in our grade two class...

...and we discussed the topics..

In depth.  Let us never forget those who served.
Have a peaceful evening!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Lilly woke up from her perch at 5:30 AM barking madly at the radio.

She was excited to see all of that snow outside her special window.
Indeed, the buses were cancelled.

But her master, Mr. Hamer, had to make it in to school.

No problem...because it is fun coming to school.

Where we can visit the beautiful poppies adorning the hallways.

With as total of 28 grade two students attending school today...

...we assembled the classes together.

Mrs. Eaton taught the group in Block One.
Mme Pepe handled the role in Block Two.
Mr. Hamer enjoyed Block Three with the children and...
...MRs. Roche finished the day with them during Block Four.

It's cool to learn from four different teachers in one single day.

And...it's cool to play out in the snow as well!

We began Block Three reading Lilly's message to the children.

This young lady teaches her peers about compound words.

They listen attentively.

In fact, we are compound geniuses!

Mrs. Roche took the group to gym.

They sat in their circle.

They learned the rules to a fun game.

You'll have to ask our young friends how it went.

They are a good looking bunch!

Check in tomorrow for more pics from school.
Hopefully the snow will let up a bit and allow everyone to get into school!
All the best,  Mr. Hamer OCT

Two helpers teach us...

...about some more compound words.

It's early morning...

...and the sun shines brightly...

...while the smiles abound broadly.

Snack time!

Getting ready for recess.

Yummy!

Healthy foods.

We dress...

...for the weather.

The sun hits the banners...

...to offer an interesting glow...

...which adds tremendous colour...

...to our south facing wall.

It's good to eat...

...before recess...

...to give us that added energy and warmth before heading outdoors.

We learned about the continents of the world.

A little...

...nutcracker.

A bumblebee.

Today each child was asked to select one of their favourite pieces of work they have completed thus far in school.  She likes singing.

She likes religion.

She enjoys the challenges presented by crosswords and anagrams.

A math and music wizard.

Tally chart fun.

Yes, every child does matter.

Our little cubby area created by moving some of the furniture around!
Have a great evening all!  Mr. Hamer OCT

Today was an exciting day!

We received our math workbooks.

We were thrilled to get started working in them!.

They offer some great drill and practice necessary to supplement the math curriculum.

The children were thrilled to have one all to their own.

They couldn't wait to get started in their work.

Mr. Hamer first taught a lesson at carpet...

...then the pupils were able to begin their activities.

Friends helping friends!

Teamwork math!

Recess time...

...finds us all bundled up.

Morning recess...

...out on the playground...

...found the snow falling...

...on all of the great looking students!

Mr. Hamer and Mrs. Blackmore ran choir over lunch time.

Yes, we do have fun...

...but we also have plenty of work to do.

We are currently preparing for a concert/play with Rag'n'Bone Theatre Company to be held at Centrepointe Theatre.

We will be singing three songs throughout the play.  We are also proud of our choir's contribution during our Remembrance Day Ceremony.

Back in class we learned about Circle Graphs....aka Pie Charts.

The children were adept at studying the data and making inferences from a comparative analysis of two circle graphs.

In Block Four, we invited out buddies from Mr. Papineau's class over for a Religion lesson led by Mr. Hamer.

Best friends...almost cousins.

Sister and brother!

Brother and a real cousin.

We thank our Grade Four friends...

...for coming by.

After Mr. Hamer read the Bible story of Creation...

...we watched a short three minute video.

Then it was down to work...

...on a class book.

It's a joy watching the older pupils assist their younger friends.

They love gathering together.

No sibling rivalry here...

...as they truly love working together.

He's a Rubik's Cube fiend.

He drew quite the crowd.

(One of the individual blocks was accidentally moved around within the cube!)
Great job nonetheless!

We near the end of the day...

...and the students continue to concentrate...

...until the last few minutes of the day.

We'll share the work completed during this lesson next week.

Wax crayons and pencil crayons are utilized.

Keep up the great work!

Have a super three-day weekend!
Mr. Hamer OCT
