There are so many skills we can learn.
We gain so much knowledge each day.
Last week, Twenty young people from "Up With People" visited our school.
They offered lessons in a variety of areas for our junior classes.
The children learned some new dance moves.
Looking good!
Mr. "A" agrees...
..as does Mrs. Gillam.
In the learning commons, some of the visitors showcased the countries they were from.
Russia.
Mexico...
...and...Switzerland...
...to name two.
Some of our young visitors came from all over the United States.
Our junior students learned so much...
...and...they had fun doing so!
Engaged youth.
Our young student knows all of the states and their capitals.
This young lady...
...shared information about her home country...The Netherlands.
Bermuda.
Japan.
Lovely.
What a great learning experience!
Some students worked in their own classrooms...
...as they learned from our friends.
I enjoyed sharing lunch time with them and I played guitar with their instrumentalists.
Out on the playground...
...our friends gather together.
Then...in block three...
...it was the primary division's turn...
...to be entertained...
...by the group.
They started off by...
...telling us where they all were from.
Then this lovely young lady taught us a wonderful song...
...accompanied by this handsome lad.
We learned some great dance moves...
...which she choreographed with input from the crowd.
Too much fun!
Time to sing...
...and time to enjoy.
We learned some cool dance moves.
Thank you to our friends from "Up With People!"
In block four, we visited another kindergarten class...
...where we taught our kinder friends six songs.
They were quick learners...
...and we enjoyed a "Sister Act!"
Back in our class we enjoyed a read aloud story.
It's all smiles...
...with lots of learning taking place.
Inclement weather last week resulted in an indoor recess...
...where the children played games...
...and built great structures!
Computer time...
...on the chrome books.
Remember to bring in your headphones like this lovely lady has done.
Mother and sin!
Then it was time to colour in titles and names for our bulletin board.
The "cover" means the cover of the class books we will make.
Mr. Hamer modeled how to colour the names in creative ways.
All done!
We visited our fourth kinder class last week as well...
...where we took this photo of a brother and sister act!
Back in class...
...we got started on our names...
...as well as catching up...
...on a variety of other activities.
A great name!
A handsome worker.
A terrific trio!
A handsome duo!
Love the pose.
Working in fun groups.
He's proud of his work and so am I.
A cool looking shirt...
...for a cool looking student!
Ah. love the messages!
So does he!
She's confident...
...and so she should be!
A lovely nation...
...as worn by a wonderful student.
A basketball fan...
...who will grow up tall.
From outer space...
...introduce a wonderful child.
We all love Saturdays...
...and so does she.
An avid reader!
Super Sam adorns the wall...
...over our new bulletin board where we will place some of our completed work.
...when we see pics from our trip to the Science and Technology Museum.
Thanks to our wonderful parent and grandparent volunteers!
Have a great evening everyone! Mr. Hamer OCT
As promised...more pics from our museum visit.
We first assembled in a bright and lovely classroom.
Claudine was our interpreter for the morning.
She had plenty of materials...
...to excite the children about solids and liquids.
She first passed around...
...some red balloons...
...with one being filled with air...
...and the other filled with water...
...and finally another...
...filled with ice.
Yes, we learned about...
Solids, liquids...and gases too.
The lovely screen in the classroom.
The children studied the objects carefully.
Claudine showed examples of each state of matter.
Avid listeners.
Moms and dads...
..and grandpa's and grandma's too.
Claudine is showcasing how a cloud forms when water evaporates and condenses into a cloud. The kettle helped showcase the concept.
Many of Claudine's supplies.
Yup...the kettle boils the water which condenses in the shape of a cloud.
Eventually, when the cloud cannot hold all of the condensed material, we have precipitation when it either rains, snows or hails.
Claudine shows the children how two liquids can be in the same contain but will not mix.
Then it was time...
...to see what floats and what doesn't.
The children were then given a task.
They were offered a grouping of materials...
...with which to create a boat...
...that would hold a plastic container...
...that would be filled with marbles.
The challenge would be...
...to have your boat float...
...and stay balanced...
...when Claudine would drop in...
...the marbles, one at a time.
There were a wide variety of designs...
...coming from a wide variety of groups.
Each time Claudine dropped a marble aboard...
...the students were asked to count along.
They were so curious...
...as were our friendly grandparents...
...to discover how many marbles...
..."their" boats held.
The pic on the screen looks cool.
We learned that different shapes...
...worked better than others...
...and that the placement of the plastic cup...
...was important to the balance of the vessel.
We must take this time...
...to thank Scientist Claudine...
...for her fun-filled presentation.
After snack...
...we headed into the main museum...
...to discover many interesting items.
A cool light show...
...illuminated us...
...even though we are bright already!
I remember those! (Big grin!)
She likes music.
Can't you tell?
Mr. Hamer loves trains.
So, he gets very excited whenever he gets near these big, old steam locomotives!
Check in tomorrow for tons more pics from the museum and from out class this week!
Have a lovely Thursday evening everyone!
Mr. Hamer OCT
We continue...
...with our views...
...from our museum trip.
We're up in the cab of the steam locomotive...
...and we're having a ball.
Some children...
...have found a little wooden railroad.
Exercise.
You go girl!
Keep peddling!
Wow...they're from a different time!
We learned about boats.
A light from a lighthouse.
Play time!
Yabba dabba doo!
Looks cool.
Queens of the castle.
Indeed.
Hey, a climbing wall!
Looks like a ton of fun!
And...it is!
Different lighting.
We are a great bunch of students.
Back to the big screen.
Get moving!
And...they do.
A happy girl.
Some great artifacts at the museum.
Hanging around.
Our "My Creation" board.
The place where we put our class book page before the book gets published.
Once all 22 students...
...have their pages...
...up on the board...then Mr. Hamer can take them down and publish the book!
Our first class book...
...is taken from a homework activity...
...we had partaken in...
...early in the year.
We were asked to sit down...
...with family members...
...and reminisce...
...about what we did...
...over our summer break.
It was a fun excercise.
When we were done the printing...
...we then coloured our page.
Some of us waited to get back to school...
...to use some of the colouring crayons...
...from the classroom.
Remember...
...if you click on the image...
...you can enlarge it...
...to make it easier to read...
...about each student's...
...summer vacation.
Enjoy!
In class, when the recess bell, lunch bell or home bell rings and we have to leave unfinished work in class, we place our work in this rainbow of files.
When Mr. Hamer evaluates our work, he then places the finished work in these two sets of folder files. The girls' work is placed in the red files while the boys' work goes into the blue ones. This is a very effective way of keeping the class neat and tidy!
At the end of the day...
...our chairs go up on our desks and we place our indoor shoes atop our overturned chairs.
Some young friends brought their homework in early! Bravo!
Remember to bring your "Fall" page in Monday!
Have a great weekend everyone.
Look for a new posting for a new week next week!
All the best, Mr. Hamer OCT
